Heating costs must be billed predominantly based on consumption under the German Heating Costs Ordinance (HeizkostenV): at least 50% and a maximum of 70% by consumption, the remainder by living or usable floor area. Since 2022, remotely readable metering devices must provide monthly consumption information. (§ 2 Nr. 4 BetrKV, HeizkostenV)
