Attic apartment: What counts as living space? Calculation rules, special features, and typical characteristics of attic dwellings in Germany.

Property

Also known as: top floor, loft floor, attic storey

The Dachgeschoss (attic floor) is the uppermost storey of a building, located directly under the roof. Special rules apply when calculating living space under the German Living Space Ordinance (WoFlV): areas with a clear room height of at least 2 m are fully counted, areas between 1 m and 2 m are counted at half, and areas below 1 m are not counted at all.
