Duplex and maisonette apartments: What exactly are they? Features, differences, and special considerations for living space calculation.

Property

Also known as: maisonette, split-level apartment, multi-storey apartment

A duplex apartment (also known as a maisonette) spans two or more storeys connected by an internal staircase. It combines the character of an apartment with the spatial feeling of a house. Under German condominium law, the individual ownership (Sondereigentum) of a maisonette can extend across multiple storeys.
